STAX SR-X9000

The SR-X9000 is the new flagship headphone that marks the pinnacle of Stax’s electrostatic headphone production. A major technological advancement is the “MILER-3” (Multi-Layer-Elect-Rords) – a four-layer fixed electrode that combines grid electrodes and conventional etched electrodes folded by thermal diffusion. The newly developed manufacturing technique matures through 20 years of accumulated research and development, enabling a rigid structure that is resistant to resonance while smoothly evolving sound transmission characteristics compared to conventional fixed multilayer electrodes.

A product development story: The circular metal mesh, when installed in the SR-X, was one of the ideal electrodes to reduce the effects of air resistance and reflections and increase sound permeability. However, there was a major obstacle to installing metal mesh electrodes in products, because they lack strength and are prone to resonance, which causes hazy reproduction of the sound. In the 1990s, the original SR-Ω was developed with the aim of increasing the size of the metal mesh. However, the manufacturing technique was in its infancy, as it was impractical to produce stable products. In fact, only a few pairs of SR-Ω were manufactured.

The SR-X9000 diaphragm is made of an ultra-thin engineered membrane, which is 20% larger than the previous flagship SR-009S. The mass of the diaphragm has been reduced to create a lightning-fast response speed and a high-frequency response range that takes headphone listening to a whole new level.

The diaphragm is made of an extremely thin, highly engineered plastic film. Due to the almost zero weight savings, excellent transient characteristics are achieved. From the fundamental to the high frequencies, the linearity of the sound is improved. The diaphragm area is increased by 20% compared to the SR-009S. This innovative technology achieves the widest sound field ever.

The sound module housing is made of durable machined aluminum. This new design firmly mounts the sound module and completely eliminates unnecessary vibration. The sound wave from the module flows more smoothly. The improved acoustic characteristics inside the housing provide clearer sound that is not affected by sound reflection.

The protective grille, which is installed parallel to the sound element, produces direct reflections, which negatively affect the sound. This problem is solved for the SR-X9000. The protective grille has columns of different lengths at the front and back. This design changes the height of the gap between the sound element and the protective grille. Thus, the protective grille cannot be parallel to the sound element and the reflection angle is fully controlled. The sound wave flows smoothly.

The main material of the bow assembly is upgraded to stainless steel. The bow assembly is more resistant to torsion and the speaker fits your ears more firmly. The material of the headband cushion that comes into direct contact with the skin is genuine leather. The position can be adjusted by the 9-step click adjustment parts.

The ear cushion material is genuine leather (sheepskin), which has excellent breathability and softness. The genuine leather makes the speaker fit tightly in your ears for a long time, so that you can fully enjoy the high-quality bass and vivid sound. This also reduces fatigue and allows you to listen to music comfortably for a long time.

The core cable material is a high-purity 6NCu copper wire (φ0.14×3). The perimeter core cable material is a platinum-plated copper wire (φ0.08×９). Thus, the high and low frequencies are improved. The cable can be changed (rewired). 2 cables (2.5m and 1.5m) are connected, and you can choose the cable according to your listening style. The storage case is made of “paulownia wood” which has low thermal conductivity and moisture control ability. This case is the best storage solution.
